Ratan Tata’s dream project -TATA 1 lakh car jeh

Tata Motors is working hard on fulfilling the dreams of millions of two wheeler owners in the country who want to buy a car.
The company said that it was about to deliver on its promise to produce a car which will cost Rs 1 lakh. The Ratan Tata’s dream project has seen several difficulties but they say that they are on track to deliver the car sometime next year.
But the much touted TATA Rs one lakh car would be unveiled at the Auto Expo in New Delhi on January 10.Tata say the current most favoured name within the company is the Tata Jeh.

Tata 1 Lakh car will resemble a production version of Tata’s 1998 Zing concept car. It will be a 5-door hatchback but there will be very little space behind the rear seats for a boot. In fact, even rear bench space is expected to be at a premium, making the car a 2+2 of sorts.

Definitely a pure A to B city car with the distance between A to B limited to short journeys where you do not need to carry any luggage. Not a balik kampung car, definitely. The car will be built on a rear engine rear wheel drive platform and will be powered by a two-cylinder engine.

Two of these two-cylinder engines will be offered - a 660cc 2-cylinder petrol and the world’s first low-cost 700cc two-cylinder common rail diesel engine with a special low cost common rail system developed by Bosch. Bosch will also apply a fuel injection system called “value motronic” for the 660cc petrol unit which will be power by 4 gears
Ratan Tata’s dream project -TATA 1 lakh car jeh has given Average in internal company tests, the petrol version managed to achieve a fuel efficiency of 26 km travelled per liter of fuel consumed. The diesel version is expected to be even better.

Tata Sons Chairman Ratan Tata has said it should not be impossible for the world's cheapest (Rs one lakh) car to co-exist with prestigious brands like Jaguar and Land Rover despite an image disparity.

New Safari DICOR 2.2 VTT

Tata Motors today announced the launch of a new Safari DICOR 2.2 VTT range, powered by a new 2.2 L direct injection common rail (DICOR) engine. The Safari Dicor 2.2 VTT range starts from Rs 7.27 lakh with an enhanced warranty of two years or 75,000 kms (whichever is earlier).”
The 2.2 VTT Dicor (Direct Injection Common Rail) engine is a 16 valve dual over head camshaft (DOHC) operated by a 32-bit electronic control unit and is equipped with Variable Turbine Technology (VTT).
The company claims this VTT technology raises the maximum power and torque ratings to 140 PS and 320 Nm respectively. Its 4X4 capabilities and in-built safety makes it a pleasure both on-road and off-road. The vehicle is available in two colours namely cycus grey and mountain green with a number of features like tubeless tyres, dual airbags, ABS (Anti Lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake Force Distribution), follow me home, reverse guide system etc.

The Safari is amongst the safest SUVs in its category. It meets full frontal crash safety norms of Europe (as per 74/297/EEC) and is available with dual airbags and ABS with EBD in its range. Known for its great off-roading capability with a shift on the fly 4x4 option, high ground clearance and high approach & departure angles, the Safari handles cities and the outdoors with equal ease.

NEW INDICA AND INDIGO

Tata Motors is working on a new model line-up that will replace the current versions of the Indica and Indigo by 2008. The new Indica and the Indigo sedan will borrow design cues from the Tata Elegante concept that was unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show 2007.

First to roll out will be the new Indica by 2008 and six months later the Indigo will also be replaced with a new version. The Elegante sedan concept is an exaggerated version of the Indigo sedan, but the prototype will be used by Tata Motors to redesign the company's two main passenger vehicles.
The Elegante will serve as the styling base for the two cars, said Tata officials, who mentioned that specific design cues will be carried forward from the concept to the new models.
The Elegante, which is larger than the current Indigo sedan, is conceptualised to incorporate 4 cylinder transverse petrol and diesel engines from 1.4 litres through to 2 litres and a compact V6 petrol power unit. Common rail direct injection turbo diesel engines with variable valve timing and capabilities to comply with Euro V emissions norms will also be available. Depending on choice of engines, power will vary from 90 to 200 PS with torque of up to 280 Nm. Transmission options include six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes.

Besides meeting all European safety, crash-worthiness and emission standards, the Tata Elegante's features include satellite navigation system, cruise control, integrated blue tooth compatibility, heated mirrors, rain sensor, front and rear parking sensors, and other contemporary features.

Tata Indigo

THE INEXPENSIVE, SPACIOUS AND FUEL EFFICIENT INDIGO IS A BRILLIANT ENTRY-LEVEL FAMILY SALOON BUT FOR TOUGH PEOPLE'S..
Whether it's because of 'prestige' connotations, additional boot space, or simply the desire to own a car that's bigger than the one in our neighbour's garage, three-box saloons are a big hit with us. Especially if they are reasonably- priced, cheap to run, and big on cabin space. Enter the Tata Indigo. We aren't saying it's the last word in refi nement, style, or driving dynamics. However, there's no getting away from the fact that the Indigo offers maximum bang for your buck. What matters here is cabin space, fuel economy and ride comfort, and the Indigo is strong on all those fronts.

Two engine options are available - a 1400cc (petrol) inline-four that makes 86PS and 110Nm of torque, and a 1400cc (diesel) that produces 63PS and 125Nm of torque. The petrol is quicker and faster, getting from zero to 100km/h in 16 seconds (19.5 seconds for the diesel) and hitting a top speed of 158km/h (154km/h for the diesel.) But as you can see, the difference isn't much, and given that diesel is much cheaper than petrol, most Indigo buyers opt for the diesel version, especially given that the diesel car does about 19kmpl to the petrol's 14.5kmpl. The diesel variant is about a lakh of rupees more expensive than the petrol version, but still outsells the latter by a large margin.

The Indigo, an indigenous effort from Tata, deserves to be lauded for what it is - a sensible, inexpensive, entry-level family saloon, which offers above-average space and ride comfort in its segment, and one that's relatively cheap to run and heavy on pocket to maintain.
