HYUNDAI HYBRID CAR

HYUNDAI plans to introduce an Elantra LPG (liquid petroleum gas) hybrid sedan in 2009 followed by a gasoline hybrid version by 2010, The report claims that the Elantra(AVANTEIN KOREA) LPG model will be the first South Korean hybrid car.

The Elantra LPG hybrid will combine an engine capable of running on LPG with an electric motor. Hyundai claims that the car will use only 30% of the fuel consumed by the existing model and will have a fuel efficiency of 19-20km/l. Moreover, LPG costs half the price of gasoline in the local market, the OEM said.

The report also claims that Hyundai will suspend production of the hybrid versions of the Verna and the Pride, test models of which are currently being used by the government.

Hyundai will begin commercial production of the Elantra hybrid in 2009, gradually increasing production to 20,000 units by 2010, 100,000 by 2012 and 300,000 by 2015.

Hyundai plans to release the LPG hybrid before a gasoline hybrid due to the LPG distribution infrastructure already being in place in South Korea and to benefit from government incentives.

The report claims that the subsidies will reduce the price of a Honda Civic Hybrid from Won 33.9m (US$36,534) to less than Won 30m (US$32,331).

Currently, the Lexus RX 400h and the Honda Civic Hybrid are the only hybrid cars available in South Korea.

Verna

The Verna is larger than the Accent in all aspects, but more importantly, it comes with a longer wheelbase than the above-mentioned competition. Which translates to better room, especially for rear passengers. Dimensionally, it is similar to the City, though it does not look as funky as the Honda.
verna has quality materials and better engineering tolerances is not enough for the Verna to grab some market share.
What's critical is the drivetrain package, and it looks as if Hyundai has done its homework in this area. Two all-new four-cylinder engines are on offer, a 1600cc CVVT petrol and a 1500cc CRDi.

The Hyundai Verna has bagged some of the most prestigious awards starting with the title of "Car of the Year 2007" by India's leading automotive publication – Overdrive, the “Best Mid-size Car of the Year” award by the NDTV Profit C&B Awards 2007, the “Best Value for Money Car” by the CNBC Autocar Auto awards and ‘Performance Car of the Year 2007’ from Business Standard Motoring.

A new five-speed manual gearbox will transfer the power to the front wheels, that promises to be much more crisp than the one in the Accent. The 1599cc all-aluminium gasoline motor is from Hyundai's new Gamma family and features double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and Continuous Variable Valve Technology.
The diesel engine that has been shoehorned into the Verna is a new 1.5-litre, 16-valve CRDi burner that Hyundai had developed in-house. Endowed with a variable geometry turbocharger that boosts the engine's breathing irrespective of the rpm-level, this new VGT, CRDi engine produces a whopping 110 PS of peak power at 4,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 24 KgM from as low as about 1,900 rpm.
